Did you know? Cardiovascular training is one of the most health beneficial types of training.
According to the American College of Sports Medicine, cardiovascular exercise is any activity that increases the heart rate and respiration while using large muscle groups repetitively and rhythmically. At the gym it can include running on the treadmill, rowing on the rower, cycling on the bike and other aerobic and anaerobic exercise.
The World Health Organization gives out the following recommendations for adults between the ages of 18 and 64 (unless specific medical conditions indicate to the contrary):
- Adults should do at least 150-300 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic physical activity throughout the week, approximately 30-60 minutes a day, more than three times a week.
- Alternatively, 75-150 minutes of vigorous exercise are recommended per week, equaling 15-30 minutes a day, more than three times a week.
