the client-trainer relationship

The bond you share with your trainer is indeed a special one. You put your trust in them and depend on their knowledge, experience and determination to help you achieve positive changes in your life. For many people, this relationship–this personal connection–is what motivates them to continue pursuing their health and fitness goals no matter what obstacles they might face on their journey.

We recognize and appreciate this bond. As a result, we strive to provide our clients with a strong and knowledgeable team of Personal Trainers. To ensure Body & Soul's trainers continue to be the best in the industry, Senior Trainers Juergen Reinhardt and Isabel Verse prepare weekly meetings known as Idea Exchanges. These meetings allow trainers to discuss the latest knowledge on various topics including exercises for particular injuries, proper form and technique, case studies and much more.

Each trainer has a strong passion for the industry and a great desire to learn and excel in their field. Together, with their knowledge and experience, they provide our clients with excellent service. Don't take our word for it, here's what clients had to say about Body & Soul's Personal Trainers:

  • "Trainers are, without exception, very knowledgeable, excellent communicators, and passionate about their work." –M. Porath
  • "Trainers were professional, empathetic and helpful. I love all of my Body & Soul trainers and appreciate that each trainer is able to pick up where the last one finished." –A. Corbet
  • "I have trained with half a dozen trainers over the years: each is different, bringing his or her own particular genius to the training; all share in their consummate professionalism, resourcefulness, skill and quality of personal attention and care!" –M. Zola

Motivator. Coach. Teacher. Guide. Supporter. Educator. These are just some of the roles your personal trainer can and will play in your health and fitness journey.

fitness tip: breathing, one of the basic principles of Pilates

There are many benefits of conscientious breathing. An increased oxygenation of the blood leads to a better oxygenation of cells and enhances our ability to concentrate. Proactive breathing activates our stabilizing muscles, offering more support to our spine during challenging exercises. This brings benefits to our everyday lives because we learn how to use our core/powerhouse and breathe to provide stability to our spine while keeping the tension out of our spine. Remember to breathe!

nutrition tip: stay on track with your meal plan

We understand that life can get in the way, but there are some easy steps you can take to help you stick to your meal plan! 1) Prepare a shopping list and stick to it. This will help you avoid impulse purchases. 2) Plan and prepare your meals the night before. Rushing to pack a lunch in the morning may compromise the nutritional choices you make or may force you to get takeout. 3) Keep a journal. Tracking your food intake will help you be more aware of what you eat and how much (enough, too little or too much). Set yourself up for success!

trainer's corner

Q: Why should I continue with strength training as I get older?

A: Muscle function is reduced in older adults as a result of aging and inactivity. The largest reduction is seen in the lower limbs and trunk extensors (lower back, etc.). In addition, there is more loss of our type II fibers which are mainly responsible for power and strength (aiding in our anaerobic activity).

While one's strength to mass ratio also decreases, one's ability to adapt to a resistance training program is not affected by aging. For instance, if a 20 year old and a 60 year old man were to start the same strength training program they would both have roughly the same percentage of strength gains, the only difference being that the younger man would start off as having a higher muscle mass to begin with.
