Did you know? According to The Heart & Stroke Foundation™ (HSF), someone dies from heart disease or stroke every seven minutes in Canada. You might be shocked to learn that statistic but what’s even more interesting (and perhaps not commonly known) is that in many cases heart disease is actually preventable with a healthy diet, regular physical activity and reduced stress – all by-products of living a healthy lifestyle.
Healthy Diet
Not only can eating healthy go a long way towards your weight loss goals, but by maintaining a healthy weight you can actually reduce the risk of several forms of heart disease. Body & Soul urges clients seeking nutritional advice and counselling to contact the experts at Eating for Energy (eatingforenergy.com).
Physical Activity
HSF urges adults to partake in a minimum of 150 minutes a week of moderate to vigorous activity. When you think about it, that’s three training sessions a week at Body & Soul – three sessions and you’re set!
Stress
For some people, balancing home and work life can be stressful and there isn’t always an easy way to reduce stress; however, one great way to reduce stress is to spend time with and learn from children and animals. Sometimes we forget but kids and dogs, for example, are naturally playful, imaginative and fun to watch and play with!
Some people claim they don’t have time or can’t afford to make these types of changes to their lives. However, making time for a healthy lifestyle now could prevent spending a lot of time later battling a preventable illness. And getting active doesn’t have to cost anything (walk, run, play!).
At Body & Soul, we encourage everyone to make a healthy lifestyle a priority!
