FAQs
Starting your fitness journey can be overwhelming, which is why we have identified and answered some FAQs for you. Do you have a question not listed below? Contact us!
What is involved in a typical one hour session?
A one hour session typically involves core conditioning, strength training and stretching; however, each session is customized and many components are added in based on each individual and their specific needs. Clients are encouraged to come early to warm-up on the cardio equipment.
What is involved in the first session?
For personal training clients, the first session is a Health Assessment. Each client is required to fill out a health questionnaire and a waiver and discuss their history, goals and background with their trainer. Blood pressure and heart rate are measured, along with body composition and measurements if desired. The client is then assessed in terms of cardiovascular function, posture, core awareness, overall strength and balance issues as well as flexibility. Further sessions are set up based on the client’s schedule and the advice of the trainer.
What do I need to bring?
Simply bring some comfortable workout clothes and a good pair of running or cross-training shoes. Body & Soul supplies all the amenities including free underground parking, lockers, towels, water bottles as well as environmentally friendly shower and bathroom supplies.
Will I have the same trainer for each session?
If you prefer working with a specific trainer, we will do our best to schedule you with your preferred trainer; however, due to scheduling and availability challenges, this may not always be possible. We do encourage trying out the diversity of our trainers and working with 2-3 as this provides variety and different teaching styles and personalities while still maintaining consistency and structure. It is also helpful to have another trainer you like to work with in the event that your primary trainer is sick or away.
Do I have to be fit to join?
Of course not! We encourage all levels and ages to come. Our current clientele consists of ages 16-87 with people of widely varying backgrounds from no fitness background to professional athletes. We do require a doctor’s note if you are suffering from certain chronic illnesses or injuries.
Can I work out on my own at the studio?
Can I bring a friend?
We recognize that 1-on-1 training isn’t for everyone, which is why we offer partner training and small group personal training services. Ask us about our referral program and find out how you can receive free training sessions by recommending us to your friends and family members!
How often should I come in to train?
How often you should train will depend on your goals. We recommend that clients come in 2-3 times a week for their training; however, in order to achieve your health and fitness goals, you may need to exercise outside of the studio as well. If you exercise quite a bit on your own, then you may only need to train with a personal trainer once a week. You may also want to take advantage of other services such as nutrition counseling to ensure you reach your goals. In order to get the most out of your experience with us, we recommend that you speak with your trainer to develop the most appropriate schedule to fit your needs.
Is there an initiation fee?
There is no initiation fee. Clients are charged per session and generally purchase packages of sessions- the more you purchase, the more economical it is (for our current rates, please visit the service rates page). Chiropractic therapy, physiotherapy and other services are charged separately.
What happens if I miss a session?
Body & Soul has a 24 hour cancellation policy and a fee will be charged for cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance of a scheduled appointment. Our trainers spend time to thoroughly prepare in advance for your session and our cancellation policy ensures they are compensated accordingly. We ask that you call to cancel your appointment in order to avoid being charged for your session. Changing a trainer or time within the same day is permitted.
