Carbohydrates – aka ‘carbs’ – are actually an essential component of a well-balanced diet. Complex carbs, such as beans, brown rice, oatmeal, quinoa, and whole grain breads, are examples of what we consider to be ‘good’ carbs. Carbohydrates are the body’s main fuel source and are therefore an essential part of a healthy diet. White flour, corn syrup and sugared cereals are examples of ‘simple’ carbs, and these are the ones we want to avoid or reduce intake of, as these are typically processed foods that turn to glycogen which leads to stored fat.
You don’t have to give carbs up but you should strive to eat more of the ‘good’ carbs!
