Some people avoid exercise in fear of worsening their ailment or health condition, when the reality is that, in most cases, exercise will improve their quality of life! Many people with arthritis, for instance, are afraid they may be injured during physical activity, further worsening their condition. They are so focused on the worst case scenario that they don’t realize the consequences of avoiding exercise, specifically the health benefits that could improve their mobility, strengthen their joints and ultimately lessen their pain. Even a healthy person, with no joint issues, will find that their joints weaken without exercise over time. In most cases, and for most health conditions, avoiding exercise can have a negative impact on your quality of life. The key is to find a program and intensity suitable for your needs (health condition, pace, fitness level, etc.).
