“I have been attending small group personal training for a few years and I love it! The trainers make the workouts fun and dynamic and different every time. I love the social atmosphere and the friendships that develop between the attendees. Small group personal training is one of the best parts of my week!” – Susan L.

Strokes can affect anyone. There are several factors that increase your chances of having a stroke (i.e. obesity, inactivity, excessive drinking, smoking, etc.); however, did you know that many people who have suffered from a stroke are able to recover quite well in the event that someone recognizes the symptoms and acts quickly?

If you see signs of a stroke, remember to act FAST.

  • Face: is their face drooping?
  • Arms: can they raise their arms?
  • Speech: can they speak properly or are their words slurred?
  • Time: call 9-1-1 immediately!

The key is to act fast as time is a critical factor when someone is suffering from a stroke. In the end, we can’t control all factors that might lead to a stroke; however, one factor we can control is our level of physical activity (i.e. exercise). Living an active and healthy lifestyle will help reduce your risk of a variety of health issues, including heart disease and stroke.

Find what you love…

Let’s face it, you wouldn’t stick to a career or job that you didn’t enjoy – so why would you stick to a workout program you didn’t enjoy? In order to achieve your goals, ensuring your program incorporates movement you enjoy and feel comfortable doing will go a long way towards helping you achieve your goals. In our technologically advanced society where you can get almost anything at the touch of a button, something like exercise – requiring physical and mental exertion – often feels more like a chore than a fun activity. As a result, establishing a program you enjoy will help ensure you maintain a long-term, active lifestyle instead of reverting back to a sedentary lifestyle. For instance, if you enjoy the way your body feels during and after a kickboxing session or during a high intensity interval training session, why not consider incorporating these into every one of your sessions?

It’s important that you communicate to your personal trainer what exercises you enjoy and which ones you don’t. For instance, if you like being pushed hard but can’t stand doing exercises like box jumps or burpees, talk to your trainer. While they will always encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone, they will never make you do something you are uncomfortable (or dislike) doing.

New to training?

Starting a fitness program is an exciting journey but it can prove challenging with so many people wanting to jump in right away without fully understanding their current fitness level, strengths and limitations. Without properly identifying what you need from your fitness program or how much your body can physically handle, you greatly increase your chance of injury which then delays your health and fitness progress.

If you are interested in beginning your health and fitness journey with 1-on-1 personal training, consider coming in for a consultation – allowing you the opportunity to sit down with one of our personal trainers to discuss your health and fitness goals!
