If you took the time to read the labels of food in your house, you may be surprised by the number of foods which contain added sugar. Unfortunately, few people seem to understand how much added sugar they are – as a result – consuming. Did you know, for instance, that added sugars might show up as “syrups” or variations of words ending in “ose” like fructose on the label?
While added sugar in small quantities may not be an issue, it’s important to keep in mind that it is digested immediately and can boost your blood sugar levels rapidly.1
You may have heard your trainer talk about push or pull exercises. When using the push/pull approach, you would focus on “pull” exercises one day and “push” exercises the next day.
Pull exercises focus on muscle groups that contract as the weight is pulled toward the body and lengthens as the weight is extended away from the body (i.e. chin-ups). Conversely, push exercises focus on muscle groups in which muscle tissue contracts when the weight is pushed away from the body and lengthens as the weight is returned back towards the body (i.e. chest presses).

It is hard to believe that it has been a full year since we made the decision to close the Body & Soul studio due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This past year has been an incredibly challenging time for many – if not all – of us, and not a day goes by that we are not reminded of the struggles and sacrifices we have faced as individuals and as a community. However, while we are still not out of the woods, we are finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
The decisions we have made – and continue to make – prioritize the health and safety of our staff and clients. We continue to receive overwhelming positive feedback and appreciation from clients for our efforts, but we cannot stress enough that you – our clients – are the reason we have persisted when many have not. Many small businesses have suffered irrevocably during this time, but with your feedback, suggestions, and continued support, we continue to be motivated to do better and to strive for more.
Over the course of the year, we have implemented, revised, and enhanced various protocols and policies to continue to ensure a safe training environment for all. And while we cannot say when these protocols will be eased, we can assure you that it will only be done when the provincial government has deemed it appropriate, and only when we feel that staff and clients are ready.
Thank you for sticking by us, but more importantly, thank you for believing in us.

Resistance bands are an incredibly versatile (and inexpensive) piece of equipment as they can be used in conjunction with several standard exercises, may be used to compliment your stretches and don’t require much space to store! Some exercises that work well with resistance bands include: bent-over rows, standing chest presses and standing bicep curls.
