Assessing your health is very important. Understanding where your health and fitness level currently stands (identified in a health assessment) allows you to set SMART goals (specific, measureable, attainable, realistic and timely). Reassessing your health regularly helps you recognize when you’ve achieved your goals!
At Body & Soul we consider health assessments one of our more important services as it allows us to understand each client’s strengths, struggles and helps our trainers design a custom program tailored to that client’s particular needs. Before beginning a training program at Body & Soul, a health assessment is required. For some people the thought of being assessed – being ‘measured’ – is frightening. We want to assure you that our assessments are used to help! They help your trainer develop a program designed to suit your needs and goals, based on your current level, and help you track your progress.
Following are descriptions of the types of assessments we offer:
Health Assessments are an analysis of your current physical fitness and health. Health assessments include a 60-minute appointment with one of our personal trainers who will identify your level of cardiovascular and musculoskeletal fitness, balance, strength, and flexibility, as well as a calculation of body composition and more. Following your assessment, you will receive a detailed report summarizing your results. We also provide modified health assessments for our Small Group Personal Training clients.
Reassessments are executed in the same way as the health assessment; however, your report will now show you how you have progressed in each category since your initial assessment. Reassessments are a great tracking tool, showing you how you have improved in certain categories, where you may want to improve and helping you develop new health and fitness goals to accommodate your current level.
The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is an innovative system used to evaluate movement pattern quality for clients. The screen is comprised of movement patterns that require a balance of mobility and stability and place the individual in extreme positions where weaknesses and imbalances become noticeable. FMS is not suitable for clients with acute injuries; please speak to our front desk to see if you qualify.
Each service provides clients with a better understanding of their current level of health and fitness. How you choose to assess your health is up to you! Remember you may not always understand or appreciate where you are unless you recognize where you have been.
