Morgan Perrin

Morgan Perrin

My name is Morgan Perrin and I am a member of the Canadian Disabled Alpine ski team. Over the past 4 years Body & Soul has sponsored me and provided personal training to enhance my conditioning. Body & Soul has been very co-operative with my scheduling and has made a great effort in making my training specific to my sport. I believe Body & Soul has had a great deal to do with my success in Alpine ski racing to date.

My 40s, from a physical perspective at least, were not kind to me. Or perhaps I was not kind to them. Either way, I experienced real injuries – not life threatening but debilitating nonetheless – and weight gain for the first time in my life. I needed strengthening and rebuilding, and Body & Soul provided me with the services I needed to improve my physical fitness and a welcoming environment in which I could do it.

I started by signing up for Personal Training. Over time I added Massage Therapy, Chiropractic services and Yoga – all some of the best in the city – to my routine. I now maintain a regular fitness schedule and my body is back to a healthy weight.

While I don’t know everything the next decade will hold for me, I do know that regular visits to Body & Soul, and the genuine care and expertise of the entire Body & Soul team, will definitely be a part of it.

Over three years ago I injured my spine and stopped most activities because of pain issues. Last summer I was referred to Body & Soul by a friend and have had very good results - starting with Dr Aaron Case who helped the pain issues with chiropractic - and a deep tissue massage therapist who augmented Dr Cases' treatments with massage therapy. Scar tissue has gradually disappeared as a result and my back is much more flexible. At the same time my fitness level was at an all time "low" and I embarked on a fitness regime with personal training.  As a result, my back condition is much improved as has my fitness level. I aim to continue with all three modes of treatment/fitness to maintain and improve my body (and soul!)

I have been working with personal trainers at Body & Soul for approximately four years and can’t say enough about the positive and encouraging environment they provide.  I’ve almost always been physically active and strongly prefer high activity sports.  I have never liked working out in gyms and really don’t like stationary exercise equipment (I feel like a hamster!).  Thus, I could never maintain a workout program.  My trainers know these things about me and work hard to keep my training sessions focused and challenging.  In fact, in virtually every workout I’ve had there (there’s probably been between 150-200 of them so far), I’m asked to do at least one exercise that I’ve never done before!

I joined Body & Soul approximately five years ago.  I sit at a desk all day talking to people, and although I have inherited genes that make me look fit, thin, and muscular (sort of), I suffer from severe ‘cripplitis’ (my term for limited range of motion in all my limbs and countless aches and pains).  I honestly do not like to exercise, and the old adage, ‘use it, or lose it,’ I found, really applies to me.  If I stop going to Body & Soul for a month or two, e.g., holidays, my body deteriorates and my ‘cripplitis’ returns.  Also, I am highly social; my trainers know I get bored easily and so are very creative in developing new exercises that challenge and keep me fit while providing me with someone to talk to while I workout.  As a professional psychologist, even I am always amazed at the mental benefits of exercise.  I come into Body & Soul totally absorbed in my day’s challenges, and exercise is the farthest thing from my mind.  I know that if I did not have a commitment to meet one of my trainers at a certain time, I would find many excuses not to exercise that day.  Within 15 minutes into my workout, however, my mental outlook transforms.  I have forgotten about the problems of the day and leave tired but refreshed, and with a smile on face.

If it weren’t for Body & Soul I probably wouldn’t make it to the gym at all! It’s hard enough to motivate yourself to exercise, let alone plan a balanced and safe workout routine. Body & Soul makes it easy; you just show up and let their experienced trainers guide you. The gym is refreshingly attitude free and everyone is friendly and knowledgeable, it actually makes going to the gym a relatively painless experience!

I have been working with personal trainers at Body & Soul for approximately five years and I really appreciate the positive and encouraging environment they provide. I like the social, family atmosphere that encourages me to try MY best while working with some of the best athletes and trainers around. I enjoy skiing, gardening and walking and I find the combination of training sessions, Pilates classes, massage therapies and Dr. Case's adjustments just the prescription to keep me moving and motivated. It has become a real family affair for us. My husband uses the chiropractic services and my grown children love to tune up their workouts with a few sessions to help them revitalize their training programs. As a family we also enjoy joining the Body & Soul team for the Sun Run, Pacific Spirit Run and the Run for the Cure. The supportive atmosphere at Body and Soul makes going to the gym a pleasure.

I began coming to Body & Soul in 2006 after my mom suggested I try a few training sessions. I had just finished a two-year graduate program and had been sitting in front of a computer and doing little in the way of regular exercise. Admittedly, while I love hiking and outdoor recreation, I had always considered going to the gym torturously boring.

I enjoyed those first couple of sessions and my trainer, though kind and fun, knew how to be just tough enough to push me past my grumbling and excuses. I was hooked. My mother and I decided to make an exchange. For years I have been teaching people how to prepare nutritionally balanced food. My mother was very busy and didn’t always have time to plan meals. We agreed that she would trade me some of her training sessions and in return I would keep her fridge stocked with healthy food. Through well-balanced eating and the structured training at Body & Soul we are both enjoying healthy transformations.
